Once again they took to the road with their La Oreja Metalika (The Metallic Ear) event at Viña Rock and showed that they are just as grand in a musical level as they are at a personal level. And so their fans can catch up with Ángeles Del Infierno, below is the transcript of the mini conversation that we had with Robert Álvarez in his dressing room right after the magnificent concert at Viña...
What did you feel in this return to Spain thanks again to Viña Rock?
|
 |
One never knows how things are going to turn out. But we believe in our people and the proof is in all that has happened. It was fabulous; everyone sang all the song from top to bottom and from start to finish. And we were very happy, celebrating it!
And why did you only go to Viña Rock and not got out on tour?
|
|
Good question but it may be best directed at the Spanish promoters. If the conditions are good of course we will come. Many conditions must be given and it is complicated but the possibility is there. We recognize that it is expensive to bring in a foreign band but we offer greater quality. We love Spain and for that we are Spanish. But we adore our countries and my parents, my family, my friends for all of my life are here which is the reason we would love to go on a powerful tour. I would come here on vacation but it would be a lot of fun to play here. And so we will leave that question for the promoters… as long as there are dates, because as usual we don’t stop!
|
Speaking of not stopping… What about the concerts on the other side of the pool?
Very well. Last week we just finished a tour that started on the West Coast through the Midwest and on Monday we are leaving for Mexico where we have twelve or thirteen performances. Later we will return to the United States to tour the East Coast and will travel through Denver, New Orleans, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Washington, Chicago… places where bands who sing in Castilian usually don’t go and where we’ve exhausted the entrances. It very peculiar because something similar happened when in the eighties touring bands came to Spain. There they approached us to autograph for them and when we speak in Spanish they don’t understand us. It’s like here in a concert when they yelled “Fuck You” and everyone chanted it!
|
|
How about through South America?
The one about South America is very curious. I live in Miami and we mainly tour through the United States as can be seen through our website and on other various sites on the Internet. Nevertheless people usually say that we are in South America because we are not famous here, as if it was something derogatory. Honestly we only just set foot in South America for the first time two years ago, in 2000. The rest of the time we’ve always been performing in the North that is, the United States and Mexico.
|
|
|
But it’s all the same to us what people think and furthermore the subject of South America is inevitable because everything there is purer. In Europe and in the United States a culture of abundance exists. There’s more than enough there, isn’t there. That’s why you see how they fight for life and you are amazed how they speak to you after a concert and know a lot about philosophy and history while in other more developed countries you don’t get past the same four trivialities. In the United States everyone has four televisions on at home, a car or the per capita income is double that of Spain. But from the cultural point of view there are enormous deficiencies and they must learn from the more humble countries. In spite of having double nationality I feel like a citizen in the place where I find myself. Today I am from Villarrobledo, tomorrow from Washington and the next day from Villaconejos de Arriba. We have a universal language that is music and this what’s important, not the other trivialities.
But doesn’t it make you mad not to be able to perform more here?
Spain is like that. And on top of not recording an album in over nine years, without a record company to support us and filling places like Los Angeles with over 15,000 people. But we don’t have to prove anything. Things are like that period. Our career is based on work and that has been most important. The companies agitate us and everything has been gained by fighting, fighting and fighting. From the first concert, in ’82, we added more than 1,500 people but I personally stuck the posters and when the people asked me if they were any good I would tell them very much, to go see them!!! It’s funny but that’s how it is and deep down if we hadn’t become big here, we wouldn’t have been able to go out. From the beginning our career has been very fast. Personally I would have liked to do something more relaxed but in the first concert there were 1,500 people, in the second with Motorhead with 5,000… my legs were shaking… but what’s clear is that at every moment we worked all the way to the top!
Anyway here you have a San Benito of being a legendary band like Barón Rojo, Obús...
|
 |
The curious thing is that most people catalog us in the same era and we are posterior. I used to go see Barón Rojo when I was fifteen and my mouth would be wide open thinking about what it would be like to succeed like they had. And when I went to Mazarrock, listening to "Siempre Estáis Allí" (You’re always there) my hairs would stand up. It’s something very beautiful and of course it’s necessary to be thankful to these bands that opened the way for groups like ours.
Why did you move to the United States?
|
|
|
Ok, Juan still lives in Madrid even though he is always traveling. I went to live in Madrid because I fell in love with the city. The first time we went to America was in 1990 and we really didn’t leave here any less. But in one year of my travels I landed by chance in Miami, I got to know it and decided to go there. The climate is stupendous and it’s like a Venice in the United States. Julio Iglesias is not an idiot! And sincerely Miami is in the middle of all the places we tour which made the decision logical. Furthermore the most important record companies like Sony and Warner are headquartered there, although truthfully we spend more time traveling than anything.
Although
you’ve already spoken to us about the new album on its
day… What can we expect on the next project?
We
a lot of songs with so much time without recording. Now what
we have to do is choose the best but we will. Above all there
are two ballads that are to die for! In effect they are all
great but content wise, more or less like in "A Cara
O Cruz", we have managers and full of lash, but the two
ballads will make even our mothers cry!!! We’re heavies
but deep down we still have our hearts!!!
To
finish, the million-dollar question: When will the new album
come out?
Well,
you already about know the problems we’ve always had
with Warner, out previous record label which was the cause
of the delay of the new album. And of course, a multinational
company never likes it when a band that sells leaves, but
we’ve always have done what we wanted and of course
when we wanted to leave we left. And then all the lawsuits
started and you know what… we finally won!!! And now
we are in the process of looking for a new bride so lets see
if we can find a pretty one that likes us of course! But shortly
it will be out!!!
That’s
what we would like because without a doubt they continue to
be one of the most loved bands in Rock Cirbus. See you soon!!!

One of the performances where the most anxious fans were was
with the one by Ángeles del Infierno. The concert of
this veteran band that each day that passes is more successful
in the Latin American market, was scheduled to start at one
in the morning, which normally meant at one fifteen, the people
settled in the awning of the Metáliko stage, where
not even a soul could fit, began to hoot and whistle as a
mass for the band to speed things up and come out earlier.
The Ángeles didn’t tardy much longer in coming out and began with "El Principio del Fin" (The Beginning of the End), where Juan Gallardo showed that although a wonderful singer and a great showman, was going to give an amazing concert. The ADI performance was memorable. Robert and his friends did not stop moving during the performance, and each note of the songs they played were sung by the public, that although very young, they knew all the old songs by these musicians. "Moriré con las Botas Puestas" (I’ll Die with My Boots On), "Hoy Por Ti" (Today For You), el "Mamma We Are All Crazy Now", that the Mamma's Boys also sang, they sang it in Castilian, calling it "Yo Estoy Loco Hoy" (I’m Crazy Today), "No Sé Qué voy a Hacer" (I Don’t Know What I’m Going to Do), "666", "Y Tú No estás Aquí" (And You’re Not Here), classics and current songs, were heard this Saturday night in which it was impossible not to sweat your shirt off with the energy that those giants gave us. Of course, the ADI performance ended with the most sung and awaited for song of the night: "Maldito Sea Tu Nombre" (Damned Be Your Name), during which they destroyed the Oreja Metálika stage, and the mob didn’t stop jumping. By the way, they played some of the material from their new album

ETERNAL
DISCOGRAPHY OF ANGELES DEL INFIERNO
One
of life’s things, you are going along so calmly
through Miami and you run into Robert. A friend for
many years, the guitarist, that’s been living
in Florida for ten years already, has corroborated
how well the group is doing there. Just in the American
continent they sold one million albums, and spend
life touring the Americas with considerable success
that converts them into one of the most prestigious
bands that ever played heavy metal sung in Castilian.
We are under notice: in 2002, there will be a new
album from the Angeles.

Juan Gallardo and Robert Alvarez members of the Spanish group
"Angeles del Infierno", in the news conference held
in a local record store.
In
the middle of a large group of fans, part of the musical band
from Spain "Los Angeles del Infierno" yesterday
were in our city, to respond to the innumerable questions
that were raised through the different communication methods
locally and from other cities, as well as to sign autographs
for the faithful followers of their music.
In
a news conference held at the Planeta CD Music store, they
spoke about all their experiences during these last 15 years
of their artistic life.
A
group that since their arrival in our city signed hundreds
of autographs, shared life experiences, intimacies, and explained
the why of their musical tendencies, as well as projections
for the future.
Just
announced that the music group will give a performance an
hour and a half long singing all their hits tomorrow night
in the capital city, to which all the tickets were sold out,
due to the fact that a real spectacle is expected.
It’s
the first time that we are visiting Ecuador and we are astonished
by the welcome and the reception we received, what’s
more the people have shown a lot of attraction, that shows
the brotherhood that exists between the Spanish speaking countries,
expressed Daniel Nuñez manager of the group.
The
group will remain in our country until next Monday, for which
they have planned to visit various tourist sites like the
middle of the world.
In
a conversation with the newspaper La Hora, the Angeles del
Infierno expressed that for January 2001 they will release
their new album entitled "Hijos de América"
(Children of America), in gratitude for the support and affection
from this continent towards their music.
"With
our music we take a message of union and demonstrate that
we all equal, we all form the same universe, the music should
go beyond the racism, the inequalities, the injustices,”
said Juan Alvarez member.
"With
our style of music we profess a rejection to drugs, to tyranny,
to disillusions, but above all to love”…”We
are people with similar styles, because we have the same cultural,
social and ideological roots, even though those that manage
us think differently”, argued Robert Alvarez.

and Interview of WEBZINE ROCKCIRCUS (Spain) |

ANGELES
DEL INFIERNO
Again
we took charge of the more Heavy part of Rockcircus.
On this occasion, the mission is to comment on hoe we
saw the return of Ángeles Del Infierno to our
country. The reason for their return was the 5th edition
of the Native Art Festival Viña Rock 2000, in
which the expansion of their stages have made it so,
this year, the most classic Heavy Metal was seen represented
in practically all the bands that performed in "La
Oreja Metálika", a show that, in my opinion,
can be extended for the next edition.
|
|
Ángeles del Infierno were promoting in Madrid days
before their performance where we able to interview them and
I had the opportunity to talk to them on my radio show. I
spent the time in fear at the hotel, thanks to the friendly
treatment that the members of band gave me. Other bands could
learn from them! The same happened in the news conference,
on the day of their concert. Speaking of that day, accommodating
the considerable delay (45 minutes) that accumulated as a
result of the modification of the seating arrangements in
the awning. Chacho, their sound engineer, wound up having
to reinstall the sound system, lengthening the wait of an
already upset public in which one could see more mature youngsters
and metal heads. I can’t get over the fact that many
came just for this performance, which began at 22:45.
|
|
A
prolonged introduction on a bed of keys warned us: “My
peace I give you, my Peace I leave you: with you Ángeles
del Infierno". The show began, with "A Cara
o Cruz” a song that ended their last recorded
album (“666”). At first I didn’t recognize
it, but immediately I sang along. They continued with
“Rocker”, and after… to coats! The
arrangement is made up of Gus Santana (guitar), Gerardo
(drums), Foley (bass) and, of course, Robert Alvarez
(guitar) and Juan Gallardo (voice).
About
their “front man” it’s just to say
that the years don’t pass in vain, but he continues
to sing like an authentic devil. We loved it. In the
section of costumes the blackness of their apparel is
emphasized: the entire band wore black. The stage became
gradually smaller and Juan, confirmed the crescendo
with phrases like: “We missed you”, “Emotional,
grateful...". |
|
|
|
|
The repertoire was based on classics from the band like
"Prisionero De Tu Amor" (Prisoner of Your
Love), "A Cara O Cruz" (Face or Cross), "Moriré
Con Las Botas Puestas" (I’ll Die With My
Boots On), "Sangre De Tu Amor" (Blood of Your
Love), "El Principio Del Fin" (The Beginning
of the End), "666". To end the concert they
chose "Fuera De La Ley" (Above the Law). They
spent about fifty minutes and it wasn’t enough
for us, but at least we were able to see this band in
our country again. You can only imagine the screaming
that erupted, the reason that it didn’t take long
for Juan to come back out on stage and together with
his friends, the public at that moment, and began to
sing a beautiful ballad called "Al Otro Lado Del
Silencio" (On the Other Side of Silence). Soon
after the rest of the band joined them to add to this
one "Pensando En Ti" (Thinking of You) and
"Si Tú No Estás Aquí"
(If You’re Not Here). They would finish with the
song that they started with and gave their Metal followers
more of the bull’s skin with two more classics:
"Maldito Sea Tu Nombre" (Damned be Your Name)
and "Pacto Con El Diablo" (Pact With the Devil).
|
|
|
I don’t know who was more amazed,
the public or the band, because it was a show that the souls
of Metal will not soon forget. With a great feeling they finished
the concert around midnight where Chacho, their technician
for over seven years, stood out and made them sound like devils.
If you were there you know. We await their new album and a
new year although, willing to ask, it wouldn’t be bad
to have a tour before the new album release performing classics
with a little more of the repertoire that is done at the festivals…
I’ll leave it there, and as I can imagine the band will
read this, a big hug from their friend the Jabato: Robert,
“Next time to death…” Angeles del Infierno
forever. Long live Heavy Metal.

|
I
remember the first time I listened to “los Angeles”
was in ’88, when they released “666”,
their most successful album in terms of sales. I was
16 years old, and this band formed part of the group
of standard bands that the most heavy of my neighborhood
adored.
Long before, when I still hallucinated with the Payasos
de la Tele (Television Clowns), the start of this band
had kicked off. It was the end of the ‘70s and
little by little a sound was formed that at the beginning
of the 80s already spanned live with audiences that
trailed AC/DC, Motorhead or Saxon.
|
|
|
In 1984 they released their first album, "Pacto con el
diablo" (Wea, 84), with great reception by the public
and critics. Those were the times of splendor of heavy through
our lands and in the following years they gave in to intense
work that included innumerable concerts and the continued
release of albums. What followed was (WEA, 85), Instinto Animal
(WEA, 86, mini-LP), Joven para Morir (WEA, 86) and the compilation
"Grandes Exitos" (WEA, 87).
In 1988, when the decline in popularity of the urban and Spanish
rock groups (Barón Rojo, Obús, Ñu, etc...),
began the Angeles del Infierno" released "666"
(WEA), an album that without leaving the heavy metal genre,
was easily accessible, with songs that were easy to remember
and that contained catchy refrains.
It was a sensation in sales and the group achieved their highest
level of fame, launched them in United States and Mexico,
a country where they are especially and exuberantly welcomed.
Surprisingly five years go by before the release of their
next album, "A Cara o Cruz" (WEA, 93), that hits
the market at a time when classic heavy metal has lost the
draw it had in the previous decade.
With better reception in the American continent than in Spain,
this Basque band little by little began to centralize itself
in those lands, until in later years they settle their residence
in Miami.
On the other hand, various problems with their record label
that had released all their work, impeded them from releasing
albums, with which their activities and the evolution of their
sound was limited exclusively to live performances.
In ’97 the company released a new compilation, "Lo
mejor de Angeles del Infierno 1984-1993" (The Best of
Angeles del Infierno 1984-1993), that sold directly to middle
market.

In 1998, the "ADI CLUB OFICIAL DE FANS" (The
ADI Official Fan Club) was born, the collective that
welcomed the followers of "Angeles del Infierno",
headquartered in Miami, that kept everyone informed
on the group’s activities, through the "ADI
Fanzine" and on the Internet, maintaining a distribution
list and a website (http://www.adifanclub.com ).

This way, the personnel from "La Factoría del
Ritmo" (The Rhythm Factory) caught up with this group.
Not too long ago, echoing the many petitions for information
from a large number of fans, above all South Americans, that
were made to us, we got in contact with them intent on interviewing
them… they amicably agreed and here is the result. Speaking
is “Robert Alvarez”, guitar soloist and founder
of the band:
In the Spanish state we lost touch in ’93, when you
released "A Cara o Cruz". Later we met up in ’99
thanks to the internet… What have you done during these
past years?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Really as you have been able to substantiate,
we haven’t stopped at all these past years that we’ve
been absent from the musical scene of the Spanish State.
We concentrated totally on playing for all of America, whose
countryside is enormous and very lengthy to travel. It’s
something that from the beginning we also owed our fans
on this side of the Atlantic since at that time in America
we were reproached for only performing in concerts on the
other side of the “pool”. It wasn’t planned
at all but it’s just that things happened that way
and we were thrilled.
What
is the actual make up of Angeles del Infierno?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): The make up is basically the same, that is,
Juan Gallardo on voice and a back up guitar. Right now Alfonso
"Poncho" Polo is accompanying us on base, Gerardo
"Robocop" García on drums and Gustavo Hermosillo
on the other guitar. I can tell you that the band sounds
completely incredible and have been playing together on
various tours through the USA, Mexico, etc… and logically
you can see it!!
Your
activity seems to be centered on the American continent,
do you still live in Euskadi or have you moved to the United
States?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Well, ADI is a band that does not believe
in borders at all. Look… I’ll tell that I do
live in the USA for the past few years. Juan for example
lives constantly traveling between the USA and Madrid as
well. Our base player lives in Chicago and the rest live
in Mexico, DF. But in reality I believe we all live on the
road as you can well imagine!!
The
ADI official fan club has a very active life. Was it born
spontaneously or did members of the band create it?
Robert Alvarez (ADI): When the idea first came up we thought
it was fantastic since it would allow us to have a much
more direct contact with our fans around the world. For
that matter we only want it to be a “FAN CLUB”
and nothing more. What we really like about its functionality
is that it is very different from all the others not just
that there is a line of communication between the band and
our followers but that there is also a very active relationship
BETWEEN all the members all over the world. And of course
we support its existence completely. As a matter of fact
we participate in it as much as we can, like in this case.
ADI
is all over the Internet, just how important is this channel
to you?
Robert Alvarez (ADI): Well… one always hears that
the INTERNET is the “future” and that one should
be prepared and the like… Well my friends, the future
is already here and if you don’t know how navigate
this channel, that’s bad for you.
Really it’s equivalent to not knowing how to read
a few decades ago. Don’t you think? The fact is if
there is STILL, SUDDENLY something that is free and that
surpasses borders…this is it!
Logically many are trying to impose regulations, laws, etc…
they may possibly succeed in the distant future therefore
guys, girls…let’s take advantage of it while
we can!!!
(Believe
it or not we are interviewing via cyberspace... Would you
have believed this a few years ago??? hahahahaa)
|
Is
the American public very different from the Europeans?
Robert Alvarez (ADI): I don’t think so. I believe
that music is a universal language to which borders,
continents and politics doesn’t matter!!! And
probably a guy from a neighborhood in New York, Chicago,
Los Angeles, Madrid, Medellin or from Mexico all have
similar problems and worries.
From the beginning (playing on wood) we’ve always
had an incredible response in all the continents so
we really haven’t noticed any differences. I
really would like it if at times others had the opportunity
to travel and above all learn about other places and
different cultures so that they are able to emit an
objective wisdom regarding other countries that at
first criticize without knowing anything about a people
or culture. As a friend of mine in Madrid would say
“How bold is ignorance” hahahaha.

And
within America, are there notable differences between the
countries in the north and south?
Robert Alvarez (ADI): As I told you in the previous questions.
We don’t see it. Perhaps the biggest difference is the
economy of course. Perhaps in the streets you see more Rolls,
Mercedes, Ferraris etc... in the USA and not as many in the
other countries but we’re not worried about that, hahahahaha.
What we try to do is to win hearts and there, there are no
limits!!
What
types of people usually go to your concerts in the United
States? (Spanish speaking, heavies, etc…) In what type
of forums do you perform? With which groups?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): What type of public... hmmm ... well kids from,
I don’t know... 12 or 13 years old, to people already
in their thirties with a desire to have fun. People who want
to let go and have a good time and leave their daily worries
aside. And they are Latin, Caucasian, Chinese… that
is to say… there’s everything just like the rest
of the planet and that’s what we like BEST!!!! Lots
of time they ask you for autographed and don’t know
a word of Spanish that AT FIRST was very funny to us but now
doesn’t surprise us.
Anyway, the same thing happened and continues to happen when
English-speaking bands go to our respective European or Latin
American countries and sing in their language. I am sure that
the majority of the people that attend their concerts don’t
speak a word of English and it doesn’t matter to them,
but they take absolute pleasure in their music and their energy.
About
where we play… from large arenas with a capacity of
50,000 people to places like HARD ROCK LIVE or HOUSE OF BLUES
to other similar small clubs. Wherever someone wants to see
us we’ll be there!!
For example on this tour we opened it by being the opening
act of a very important festival in NEW JERSEY, USA where
more than 100 bands will perform. (Let me tell you language
is not a barrier!!) Anyone who would like proof just needs
to go to http://www.metalfest.com and they’ll be able
to see.
You
haven’t released any albums since ’93… there
were a rumor that you had problems with your record label…
is that true?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Well why should I tell you different. That’s
the truth!! There were disagreements with our previous record
label (The one with the lucky rabbit “Bugs Bunny”
that continues to be my mascot, certainly) and WE decided
to terminate our relationship with them (something a little
unusual that typically happens the other way around, hahahaha),
which was very hard for us to achieve, believe me. Finally
we are free to do what we like and that is what we plan to
do shortly!!!
But
during that time did you create a new repertoire?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): But of course!! Why not? We have tons of new
songs prepared and are ready to rock. So ... PREPPARE YOURSELVES
we coming to your ears again!!!!
During
these past years metal has evolved very much and in many ways.
Have you followed this evolution? Have any of these styles
filtered you’re your music?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Of course... anyone who says no ... well...
maybe it’s be best if I shut up. But that’s something
VERY because firstly a musician, a writer, or composer or
whatever you want to call them must have sufficient sensitivity
to be able to process external information and in their own
transmit it through their music, painting, poetry, etc. therefore
of course one doesn’t pick up all the types of influences.
Beethoven didn’t invent music nor did Cervantes invent
the novel, do you understand me or not?
Angeles
Del Infierno also knew how to evolve (something I think we’ve
always done) and you’ll have the proof when you hear
our new album.
I
also understand that you will be releasing a new album…
what’s that going to be like?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): IT’S A SURPRISE!!! But in a good sense,
hahahahahahahaa
|
|
Who are the technicians and producers you are going
to work with?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): That’s still something that still
needs to be clarified since a lot will depend on it,
such as the type of sound and concept we want at the
time we’re recording. Anyway, who better to produce
than oneself?
What
countries will the album be released in?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Well we assume that like always in all
those countries where we have ADI fans, there are a
lot of them!!
In
the 80s Euskadi was especially receptive to punk bands,
however heavy metal did not receive as much warmth.
Nonetheless in the 90s they appreciated many groups
like Koma, Su Ta Gar, Etsaiak, Soziedad Alcohólika...
do you like the current state of the metal scene is
the Basque country?
|
|
|
|
Robert Alvarez (ADI): I believe that the
80s were very creative years in EUZKADI and yes, as you have
said the punk movement had many fans there but let me remind
you that we came from there, obviously due to that HUGE SUPPORT
by our people. Obviously we have a very special fondness for
EUZKADI (land where our families live in) and of course we
identify with what happens there in that aspect. We started
in those same neighborhoods where all these other groups you
mention began. And don’t think we didn’t have
our share of problems at the beginning in other places because
of the fact we were a band from the north!!
Your
name, some of your lyrics… refer to Satanism. Do you
use it as a metaphor or is there something more?
Robert
Alvarez (ADI): Well… I love playing with metaphors.
I’m going to leave the answer to this question in such
a way that few words will be enough for a goof listener.
What
message will you send your Spanish, Basque and European fans
that for some time have not heard from you? When will we see
you perform around here?
Robert Alvarez (ADI): Well to all those out there I’d
like to say that, well, at this moment we are starting on
a new tour “ADI WORLD TOUR 2000” that will take
us from the USA through Central America, South America and
why not… WE WILL FINALLY ARRIVE IN THE SPANISH STATE

Latin Metal Melts Down In March
Frank Meyer, Managing Editor
Tuesday, February 29, 2000 11:39 AM
Spanish
Metal Gods Angeles Del Inferno Set To Play March Metal Meltdown!
Latin
metal will play a strong part in this year's March Metal Meltdown,
with three diverse metal acts - Angeles del Infierno, the
Chasm, and Ill Nino - scheduled to play.
Angeles
del Infierno will headline one of the stages on Friday, March
10, the first day of the two-day event set to take place at
the South Jersey Expo Center in Pennsuaken, N.J.
Also
known as A.D.I., the band formed in San Sebastian (Basque
Country), Spain in 1984, playing traditional heavy metal.
The group was signed by Warner Music shortly thereafter and
went on to become a platinum-selling act, playing thousand
seat clubs and stadiums up to 60,000 throughout the Iberian
Peninsula. A.D.I. relocated to Mexico and the United States
1997 and did its first full-blown tour of Mexico in 1998,
performing over 65 shows.
March
Metal Meltdown will be the starting point for A.D.I.'s 2000
U.S. tour (see dates below). "We've heard about the Milwaukee
Metalfest (from which March Metal Meltdown was spawned) for
years and we decided to kick-off our new tour at this well-known
metal festival," said A.D.I. vocalist Juan Gallardo.
"Latin music keeps growing and growing and we've been
at it a long time. We are looking forward to seeing all our
die-hard fans and new ones. We've never played in the Philadelphia/South
Jersey area but we know we'll bring out all the Latin metal
kids on the 10th." The group will also release a new
album later this year.
Originally
from Mexico, the Chasm now bases in Chicago. Its brand of
crushing death metal has earned the band a reputation as one
of the most intense live and recorded bands. Veterans of the
Metalfest, the Chasm will surely be on the must-see lists
of all death metal fans at March Metal Meltdown.
Led
by former M.O.D. drummer Dave Chavarri, Ill Nino has been
piquing the interest of metalheads in the greater New York
area for the past year. Bursting onto the scene last year,
Ill Nino has defined a new genre of metal crossed with Latin
rhythms that has received an incredible response live and
on the area's largest metal radio station, Seton Hall University's
WSOU. Based in New Jersey, Chavarri, Chris Machado, Marck
Rizzo, Jardel Paisante, and Derek Sykes come from Peruvian,
Brazilian, Spanish, and Italian backgrounds.
March
Metal Meltdown is part of the Metal Mania Series, four similarly
crafted festivals that will take place throughout the year
- March Metal Meltdown, Mayhem in May (Los Angeles), Milwaukee
Metalfest, and November to Dismember (Texas). All Metal Mania
Series events are sponsored by KNAC.COM.
March
Metal Meltdown is scheduled for Friday, March 10 and Saturday,
March 11 - beginning at 4 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectively -
at the South Jersey Expo Center, located off the New Jersey
Turnpike in Pennsuaken, N.J., just 12 miles from Philadelphia.
It is an all ages show.

are $55 for a two-day pass and $35 for a one-day ticket (plus
